১৯৪৫ সাল ফেব্রুয়ারি মাস। ইউরোপে যুদ্ধ তখন প্রায় শেষ মুখে। আমেরিকা আর ব্রিটেন মিলে পশ্চিম দিক থেকে ফ্রান্স কে নাৎসি দের হাত থেকে মুক্ত করেছে। পূর্বে সোভিয়েত ইউনিয়নের সৈন্যবাহিনী জার্মানদের আরো পশ্চিমে ঠেলে দিয়েছে। দুই দিকের চাপে জার্মান নাৎসিদের হার প্রায় নিশ্চিত।  রাশিয়ার দক্ষিন পূর্বে ক্রাইমিয়াতে বেশ ঠাণ্ডা তখনও, যদিও কালো সাগরের পাশে থাকার জন্য ইয়ালটা শহরে তখনও অতটা ঠাণ্ডা পড়ে নি। আবহাওয়া বেশ মনোরম। এখানেই মিলিত হবেন মিত্রপক্ষের ৩ সর্বেসর্বা। গ্রেট ব্রিটেন এর প্রধানমন্ত্রী উইনস্টন চার্চিল, আমেরিকার রাষ্ট্রপতি ফ্রাঙ্কলিন রুজভেল্ট ও সোভিয়েত ইউনিয়নের সভাপতি স্টালিন। যুদ্ধ পরবর্তীতে ইউরোপে ভাগ্য নির্ধারণ ও পূর্বে জাপানের বিরুদ্ধে আমেরিকার সথে যুদ্ধে যোগদানের জন্য সোভিয়েতদের রাজি করানোর বিষয়ে এই মিটিং।  পরাজয় নিশ্চিত জেনে Germany কে আমেরিকা, ব্রিটেন ও সোভিয়েত রাশিয়া নিজ নিজ প্রভাব ক্ষেত্রের হিসেবে ভাগ করে নেয়। প্রথমে ফ্রান্স কে এর থেকে দূরে রাখা হলেও পরে তাদেরও দক্ষিণ পূর্ব জার্মানি এর খানিকটা অংশ দেওয়া হয়। এমনকি রাজধানী বার্লিন কেও ৪ অংশে ভাগ করা হয়।...

Srilankan debt crisis

   Children can't give exams because of a shortage of papers.  Sri Lankan govt imports and export things in $. but the import is more than the export. This led their foreign reserves to depreciate. As they lose more and more dollars, they can't buy more things. Also, govt makes unequal valuation of dollars to Srilankan rupee.  This led to the rupee value depreciating.  Srilankan travel industry heavily took a hit due to the start bombing. And after that COVID makes the situation bad to worst. The tourism and travel industry is one of the backbones of the Sri Lankan economy, which suffers heavily this time.  Also, many government decisions make the situation direr. The government banned all pesticides imported to make organic farming but this sudden decision cut down agricultural production in half.   If I give you a laptop without any price tag and ask you what should be its price. You would ask me for more information. But if I give you the same laptop with a price tag of 1000$. And ask you what should be the actual price of the laptop according to you. Now you can give me an answer. Researchers call this phenomenon the anchoring effect. In the 2nd case, our brain uses the number 1000$ as the anchor and adjusts the estimated price according to it.  In another experiment, Dan Ariely asks participants to write down the last 2 digits of their social number. And then he gives a wine bottle without a price tag. He asks them if they would pay that much of $ the amount to buy the bottle. people with a higher number pay 5 to 6 times more than people with a lower number. The test shows 80-99 digits people pay on average 56$ and people with 10-20 on average pay 16$.  We can see this effect when we buy things. How small things can shape into big thing It's not seems like but tiny habits can change you what you are. Something you do daily and regularly change you as a person for better or worst. Being 1% better every day leads to 37.7 times better at the end of the year.  Example smoking one cigarette every day doesn't seems like too much but regularly doing it can cause cancer.  Also doing exercises everyday doesn't make you bodybuilder instantly but doing it everyday would.  image courtesy: Atomic Habits by James clear  Motivation vs environment We often thinks we need motivation for doing something.
